Local Info & Useful Information:
The Economic Development Unit at the City of Greater Geelong is able to provide a plethora of valuable information and date about our city. Some of these things we knew, some we did not. We have provided some of the more interesting points that you might find useful.
- Geelong is located approximately 75km from Melbourne CBD, and takes about 45 minutes by car on the Princes Highway. Our population is around 205,000 with predictions of this reaching about 270,000 by 2031.
- Our three major employers in Geelong are Barwon Health, followed by the Department of Education which is closely followed by the Ford Motor Company of Australia. There are around 10,000 Geelong residents who regularly commute to Melbourne for work.
- We have internationally renowned and recognised schools such as The Geelong College and Geelong Grammar School. Interestingly, Princes Highway was given this name when HRH Prince Charles attended the Corio campus of the Geelong Grammar School.
What we do know is that in our spare time we enjoy fabulous restaurants and cafes, excellent wineries of The Bellarine and surrounding region, stunning beaches along our famous Surfcoast, water activities on Corio Bay, our gorgeous Waterfront precinct, beautiful gardens, national parks, taking in performances at Geelong Performing Arts Centre and The Arena, watching our Supercats play Basketball and the mighty Geelong Cats play Australian Rules Football, surfing our renowned breaks along the Surfcoast, driving the Great Ocean Road to name but a few.
Is Geelong a great place to live? We certainly think so! Don’t believe us - come for a visit and find out for yourself!
